How does RIM molding work?

In RP molding industry, low-pressure pouring is one of the crafts. It is a new craft which is mainly used for batch production and  rapid tooling. Two-component PU materials are mixed and then injected to the RIM mold under normal temperature and low-pressure condition, then products are made after physical and chemical processes, including material polymerization, crosslinking, solidification, etc.

Applicable mold: ABS mold (over 100 pcs); Resin mold (over 300  pcs); Aluminum alloy mold (over 1000 pcs).

Injection materials: Two-component PU

Normal working time: 15-30 min / pcs. The demolding temperature can be controlled under 40℃. The performance will be the best if parts are solidified for 2-4h under 80℃ after demolding.

Standard tolerance: ±0.20mm/100mm

  • RIM technology design guidelines
After the mixed PU are injected into the mould, they will react quickly in the mould and crosslinking and solidification occur. The product model can be obtained after demolding. Simple process of low-pressure pouring includes: storage → measurement → mixing → injection → solidification → demolding → finish work, which is characterized by high efficiency, short production cycle, simple process and low cost. It is applicable to low-volume production during product development and production of covering parts with a simple structure, large products with a thick wall and products with uneven wall thickness.
